Hong Kong

Summary of my Hong Kong experience

Since the seven posts about the trip would test the endurance of any blog reader I thought I’d do a summary not only for them but to also add some little thoughts that didn’t quite fit in the feel of the stories.

Day 7 – Smells like vomit

Today was our final day in Hong Kong which meant a trip to Mongkok to buy all the things we hadn’t bought on our first trip there. It didn’t start well with Pauline feeling ill so she couldn’t take advantage of the last buffet breakfast and only munched on cereal. Her mild sickness meant that [...]

Day 6 – Smells like sand

Another ride on the star ferry – this time upper deck again (always upper deck for me now baby!) and then a walk to the peak tram. You can catch a bus there but I figured the best way to see a city is to walk. The only problem was that I was a little [...]

Day 5 – Smells like ice cream

Today our star ferry ride was on the lower class deck which is a hell of a lot noiser, smellier and worst views. But if you want to save 50 cents then it’s the only way to travel. We were reaching the end of our original $100 HK on our octopus cards so they needed [...]

Day 4 – Smells like fish

It’s hard to believe that it took us 4 days to visit the actual island of Hong Kong via the star ferry. Kowloon and the New Territories could keep you busy for weeks on end, but our first visit only involved about 40 minutes at the ferry terminal waiting to transfer to a New Ferry [...]

Day 3 – Smells like coffee

Down to another lush breakfast but on our return we discovered that they were still cleaning our room. After waiting nearby for a while we decided to go downstairs to kill some time then went back up to get our stuff. This time I was making no mistake and wearing some shorts and a soccer [...]

Day 2 – Smells like BO

Pauline got up and went to the loo with the blinds closed, but when she came out I had opened them. She was stunned by the view of cruise ships coming in to dock right in front of us and the mass of highrises across the water being serviced by the busy little star ferries. [...]

Day 1 – Smells like Vinegarette

Left Australia in the morning on a Qantas Airbus A330 with excellent seats. Most people wouldn’t care for seats directly behind the toilets but we weren’t in the smelling range and the leg room was incredible. We could put our feet up against the wall and the tv was on an arm in the seats [...]
