39/365 - Plasma donation

Today I went and donated plasma at the Maroochydore Blood Donation Centre. Unfortunately, it appeared that I wasn’t hydrated enough and my veins weren’t exactly willing to play today. They still managed to get enough to make it worthwhile though, I’d hate to think I’d been pricked with a needle all for nothing!!

I highly recommend that anyone who can donate should. It doesn’t take long, there’s minimal pain, and you help so many, many  people in need. It’s so simple, there’s really no excuse.

38/365 - Missy hanging out in the bathroom

This is our 7 week old puppy, Missy. At the moment she has to live inside (as she’s not had all her vaccinations yet), so her domain is our bathroom. She’d just woken from a nap (and her bedding was in for a wash), when she found a camera in her face.

I love that she’s so curious about everything, and her energy about the world around her. I can’t wait until I can take her for walks down the street, take her for a swim, and really let her see what the world is about. For now, she’s confined to indoors although she still gets to play with our 7 year old dog, Turbo.

37/365 - Roof tiles

I’ve decided that for the next 7 days I’m going to focus on taking photos around my home. Restricting my location will force me to become creative, which is exactly what I need right now.

Today I looked up and noticed the contrast between the bricks, the roof tiles, and the sky. It immediately screamed HDR at me, and this is the result. I love the texture in this shot, and the patterns in the sky. My only self criticism would be the halo over the top of the tiles…I wish I’d seen that when I was still editing so that I could have adjusted the sky and removed the halo.

A rice cooker is not the same as a slow cooker.

Today I left to get my hair cut and coloured, which meant Mat would have to take on preparing our dinner. The instructions I gave him were simple; at 2.30pm he was to take the corned beef from the fridge, open the packet, and put the meat in the SLOW COOKER. Cover it with water, put the lid back on, turn the knob to “high”. There was no way he could screw that up.

I should have known better.

I should have remembered this was the guy who only last week took a bottle clearly marked as “face moisturiser” (and an expensive brand for any ladies paying attention) to be the same as the “After Sun Aloe Vera Gel” I had recommended he use for his sunburn. Hopefully the $10 equivalent he used on his back helped. It’s also the same guy who when half asleep took our new puppy dog out for a toilet break, stepped in dog poop, returned to bed and thought “hmm…my foot is really quite cool compared to the rest of my body” and fell asleep. In the morning, we discovered dog poo on the fitted sheet, top sheet, and doona. Quite the effort.

So two hours later I arrived home today to be greeted with a strong smell of corned beef. “Wow, that’s strong for something that’s only been on for about half an hour”. Glancing into the kitchen, to my amusement I found the aforementioned corned beef not in the slow cooker as recommended, but instead in our rice cooker, bubbling quite madly. My response was to laugh hysterically (the same reaction with the moisturiser and dog poo incidents – both times not particularly helpful) while trying to explain what he had done wrong. Mat didn’t know whether to laugh or not, but in the end he got shitty, declared he couldn’t tell the difference, and turned away. Apparently, the words “rice cooker” on the front aren’t clear enough.

Secretly, I think this is part of his plan to get out of cooking anything, ever. If he can’t get the most basic of things right, then he should never be left alone in the kitchen…correct? WRONG! I hate cooking, so he’s not getting out of it that easily!!

Not to be confused for a slow cooker

36/365 - Tug of war over a pig's ear

Our new puppy absolutely LOVES chewing on pigs ears, it will keep her entertained for hours at a time. We took her to Mat’s work today to show her off (as well as have a couple of drinks after work – they *are* mechanics after all…isn’t that what they all do).

We brought a pigs ear for her which she happily got started on, until one of the guys decided a game of tug of war was in order. It was such a funny moment that I had to take a photo.

For anyone concerned re: dog training, we did ensure that the pup did not win, therefore reinforcing she was not the dominant one.
