26/365 - Sunset on Australia Day

Today was Australia Day, which technically celebrates the arrival of the British to claim Australia back in 1788. Generally though, Australians just use it to celebrate the country as a whole. It’s one of the only days of the year where flying a flag on your car isn’t seen as “bogan’ish”. I’d daresay almost 90% of the country spends the day by having a barbecue with mates, having a few drinks, and kicking back and relaxing.

Thus we had to follow the lead set to us by our elders, and have a bbq. We set up at the river at 7am with a tarp (to give us some shade during the day), the esky (compulsory), the bbq and lots and lots of food. We drank, ate, swam, and played frisbee until 5pm, when we were blessed with this beautiful sunset over the river. It topped off an amazing day with friends; I couldn’t have asked for a better day.

25/365 - The moon

For a couple of weeks now I’ve been wanting to get a moon shot, but every time I’ve looked for it I couldn’t find it! I finally tweeted about how strange it was (and questioned whether it was just me) and found there was someone else that had been having the same problem!

Finally, tonight the moon was out in the sky, and apart from the odd cloud I had a completely uninhibited view. Perfect for taking photos. What a beautiful night.

24/365 - New day

Still out camping, I got up early (I’m assuming before 6am, I wasn’t looking at the clock but it was DAMN early) and went down to the creek to take a few photos. I looked up and saw this gorgeous sky, and framed it with the trees on top of the mountain.

23/365 - Biking in the woods

Today we went camping for the night with friends. It wasn’t too far from home, only a 1.5 hour drive but far enough inland that we were in the middle of the bush. We had taken our bikes with us, and rode along the bush walk trail.

It was a great ride, and very challenging. Mat was having problems with his rear brakes, while I was attempting to ride it on road tyres (hence my progress was incredibly slow, and I had to walk a lot of uphill mountains that were just gravel – I couldn’t get any grip). Here we had stopped for a water break while Mat took another look at his brakes.

The following day we did the same track again. Julie got bitten 3 times by wasps, Mat once (on the nose – haha) and myself once.

22/365 - Julie's post it masterpiece

Today I was struggling a little bit for inspiration. My friend Julie visited me in the office, and created this masterpiece for me. She’s issued a challenge for anyone looking at the picture – can you see where she’s made a mistake?
