Photo of the day

90/365 - A little off colour

I’ve been wanting to do a self portrait for a while using my Avatar 3D glasses, and I think they’re going to feature in the next few self portraits over the next 8 months. Once I get over my fear of being in front of the camera, I think I’ll stop hiding so much (aka in the dark, or side shots). It’s a huge pschological battle when I willingly point the camera in my own direction; every instinct is saying “RUN FOR THE HILLS”.

But practise makes perfect right? If I spend more time in front of the camera I’ll become more comfortable with it, and will then be able to create more exciting (and less dark) photos of myself.

89/365 - Candles

Originally this was going to be a bokeh photo, but it just wasn’t happening for me. Still more research to be done on that topic methinks, I want to nail it! You can see there’s aluminium foil in the background, I’d been trying to bounch the light from the candles off that, but it just wasn’t coming out how I’d planned. More research and practise I say.

So, I decided I would still use the set up and go for a night ambient photo of candles. How typical of me, and how boring.

Cleaning and decluttering – help needed!!

I never really thought of myself of a pack rat. I knew we tended to keep things since we have a lot of stuff, buy I also put it down to not having much room. But the night I couldn’t fit something into the top drawer in the bathroom, I knew a cleanup was in order.

So far I’m two drawers into my clean up. My plan is to work through a drawer a night, and when that’s done, clean out the cupboards. At the moment it’s strictly just throw out or keep. If I haven’t used it in the last year then it goes. Accordingly, a lot of old makeup has been introduced to the bin.

Once I’ve tossed out everything I can I will start focusing on organising it. This is where it gets sticky, since I have no strategy in mind.

Recent slump

I don’t know what happened to me recently, but I went through a huge slump. My eating habits got worse, I barely exercised, I was tired all day every day, and I was stressed out. I can’t blame it all on the stress of organising an engagement party (which I’m yet to blog), but I’m sure that played a part in there somewhere. Even my photos of the day suffered, as I took  photos of my bedsheets, or a towel. You know, really exciting stuff.

Accordingly, it all took its toll and I gained a kilo in a week. Given I’m meant to be losing weight, the situation wasn’t ideal.

Thankfully, I’ve pulled my finger out.

I’m planning my meals for dinner, my creative juices are flowing for my photos again (hopefully there’s some good ones coming up soon), and the scales are back to showing a downwards turn.

It might have taken me two weeks, but I’m back baby!

88/365 - What a mess

This week I have a mission – every night I’m going to clean out one of our drawers until they’re all done. We just have SO much stuff in there that’s obviously not getting used, it’s time to get organised! Just after this photo was taken I cleaned out the drawer, and barely 1/2 of it remained. One drawer down, several more to go!
