115/365 - Parent ducks and their babies

Some ducks with their new babies! Saw this in the creek just near home, and unfortunately all I had on me was my iphone. Mat and I were out walking the dogs and saw this on the way home, and ended up sitting there for 5 – 10mins watching them.

P.S. It was ANZAC today, and I’m highly grateful for the men and women who fought for the freedom we all share today. Lest we forget.

114/365 - Beer & a winning team, what more can you ask for?

This evening we went to a friend’s place to watch the AFL, expecting Melbourne Demons to lose (which happens regularly) to the Brisbane Lions. Instead, they played incredibly well and came out on top, winning 103 – 53. Quite the flogging.

Dan is currently attempting to recruit us to the dark side by supporting the Demons (as we don’t really support any AFL teams, it’s not our sport of choice). We’ll see….

Panasonic Lumix Life Competition – Focus on Australia

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Panasonic Australia. All opinions are 100% mine.

Panasonic-lumix

I love photography. I love the ability of capturing moments and places, and sharing your viewpoint with others. In a single photograph, you can inspire emotions and feelings, and take people to places they’ve never been before. But there’s a difference between photography and simply taking photos – photography has a deeper purpose and meaning than a snapshot. You’re capturing the essence of your subject.

Panasonic recognise that, and have started a competition for the everyday photographer. The competition is called LUMIX Life Focus on Australia, where entrants are asked to take a photo showing the soul of Australia. The winner’s photo will be published in a coffee table book also featuring the works of some top name photographers, including Ken Duncan (of whom I’m a huge fan), Peter Eastway and Bill Bachman. I get a kick out of people looking at my photos on Flickr, I can’t even begin to imagine how amazing it would feel to have my photo in a book with such quality professionals! Ken Duncan hand selects the winners as well, so if I won it would be even more of an ego boost in my book (pun intended, sorry).

LUMIX Life Focus On Australia starts April 1st 2010 - The Video

The competition runs from April 1st through to June 30th. There are monthly giveaways (the Lumix DMC-GF1, which I have to say looks pretty impressive) along with the final prize at the end of the comp. The grand final winner will also receive their own copy of the book, available in bookstores and selected camera outlets from November 1st, 2010. Proceeds from the books will be going to a good cause, the Walk a While indigenous arts educational program.

There are only three requirements for the competition:

  1. Entrants need to be from Australia
  2. Photos need to be focused on Australia
  3. Photos have to be taken using a Lumix camera

More information on the competition can be found at the following locations:

Props to them for being in touch with this generation, they sure know how to reach their audience!

Need a laugh? Check your blog statistics

I’ve been using Google Analytics for a while now, using it to track my blog statistics so I know what pages are popular, how people are finding my site etc. Sometimes the results can be the funniest thing, especially when it’s something you didn’t expect.

For example, one of the regular top keywords leading to my site is:

big day out boobs

That’s DEFINITELY not something I ever thought would be a major traffic source to my site. It all stems from my review of 2009′s “Big Day Out” festival on the Gold Coast. Contrary to what the keywords might have you believe, boobs was not a big thing for me. In fact, the term “boobs” only appears when discussing Bullet for my Valentine’s lead singer asking all the women to flash him, and my subsequent curiosity on the world record for most boobs flashed at one time.

Some other keywords that make me giggle:

  • Power peeing
  • 3 month long rash
  • How to put up with bitching at work

Yep, I write about some random stuff!

The most popular page on my entire blog isn’t even my homepage. It’s a review that I did on a new coffee machine we bought at work, the Saeco Modo Mio. In fact, to give you an idea of just how popular the page is, it’s the third link on google if you do a search for Saeco Modo Mio. If you search for Saeco Modo Mio review, it’s the FIRST link! Incredible. If I got paid for every single hit on that page, I’d have a lot of money (not exactly rich, but stoked with all the money I was getting).

Sometimes the attention you get is from the most unexpected means. Perhaps I’ll write a random post on donkeys, see how many hits I get on that. If I add boobs in there somewhere, I’m sure it will be a hit!

113/365 - Churros at San Churros

Today I had a couple of friends working in the office with me so we all went out for lunch. First we had a bite to eat at the Pig & Whistle, before finishing up with a few treats from San Churros. I was naughty and had a small hot chocolate, and but these churros and the hot chocolate dipping sauce was for the guys. At least I didn’t have that!
