Bring on the A-League, and bring on Roartub

Right now it’s incredibly dark outside, the wind has picked up and warnings are being issued repeatedly for a big storm that’s heading right for the Sunshine Coast. Yet nothing can ruin today for me, nothing.

A-League is back.

It’s been a mammoth off-season, with the beginning of the season pushed back to avoid starting during the finals of the other football codes in the country. Brilliant idea I think, and hopefully it means we will see some increased spectator numbers. Last season was an amazing time for football in this country (soccer for some), with my favourite team, Brisbane Roar, taking out both pieces of the silverware. Love it.

To celebrate the start of the season, a group of us on twitter are meeting up beforehand. There’ll be drinks, introductions, chanting, and lots of chatter.

If you’re interested in coming (we’ll accept supporters from other clubs, although we may stir you a little), the details are:

Hotel LA
Caxton St
Brisbane
6pm – kick off (make sure you leave with enough time that you don’t miss kick off though!)

We have even created a facebook event page, which you can find here. The invitation is open to everyone so feel free to just show up unannounced and meet some new faces! I’ll be sure to post some pictures from the meet up tomorrow, once I come down from the high of the start of the new season.

Tonight’s game couldn’t be any better. It’s a grand final replay between my beloved Roar and Central Coast Mariners; I can’t wait. Is it time to go yet?

Project 365 (2011): 72/365 – Grand final day

72/365 - Grand final day!

Grand final day at Suncorp Stadium for the Hyundai A-League, and in a match that will be talked about for years to come, Brisbane Roar overcame Central Coast Mariners on penalties. Absolutely stellar and thrilling match, and two days later I’m still trying to get my voice back.

5 Happy Moments from last week

My top 5 happy moments from the past week:

  1. Being blessed with the presence of friends and family for my birthday dinner on Friday night. I tried to explain to them just how much I love them and was so grateful, but could feel myself about to cry so just did a “thanks for coming, you’re all awesome” 5 second speech.
  2. Seeing Brisbane Roar dominate the game against Gold Coast United, winning 4-0 (GO TEAM!) then being presented with the minor Premiership plate.
  3. Putting up my brand new bookshelf/desk from Ikea in my room, and taking another step towards being organised
  4. Seeing my dogs, they are forever bringing a smile to my face
  5. Being wished a Happy Birthday from Mat (my ex, and this truly made my day; purely because it confirmed that we can still be friends, and that’s more important to me than anything else. I spent 11 years of my life with this man, I don’t want to just throw it all away and feel bitter about it all).

So, what’s your top 5 moments for the week?

I’m a lifesaver in training who can’t make up her mind

Remember this post, talking about all my plans for February and how busy it was going to be? Yeah…well um, that’s not exactly happening anymore. I think it’s time for an update.

Living arrangements:

Last update I spoke about moving in with friends for 6 months while sharing the dogs with Mat. This plan was overhauled in a dramatic way, when Mat showed impatience with me using the truck, and the dogs remaining where he was living. He had wanted to move out with some friends, and from what I could gather, he felt like he was being held back. I snapped a little, and cancelled my plans with friends (which she was gracious about, but I’m sure she would have been pretty pissed off).

Currently I’m still at my Mum’s, but I’m actively searching for a share house that will allow my dogs. I’ve had a look at a few so far, but not had any luck. The first place was incredibly nice, but it felt a bit awkward and I don’t think I would have enjoyed living there. The guy was nice enough, it just didn’t feel right. So I passed. The second house I had chatted to the guy a bit, but when I arrived and asked again to make sure the dogs were ok, was informed the landlord didn’t want dogs there. That really frustrated me, since it was a complete waste of time even going to look at the house then (and I had brought a friend with me, so it was a double whammy in the waste-of-time department).

Thus, the search continues. Wish me luck!
