$1100 later ($561 after health insurance) my mouth and wallet hurt

I went and saw the dentist the other week for a checkup and to find out why my teeth had been hurting. Turns out my mouth was in a bad way, in that I needed 4 fillings, some seals on other teeth and 4 wisom teeth pulled out. Yuk.

I went back on Friday to get the first session done, which was all the fillings and seals. I spent a total of just over 2 hours in the chair with my mouth wide open as the dentist completed all the required work. Two days later and it still hurts a little bit to open my mouth fully, which is no doubt from having to hold my mouth open for so long.

When it came time to pay for the first session, I was truly grateful for having health insurance. Even after it had kicked in I still had to pay $561, which basically put a big dint in my credit card, and made the possibility of paying it out in full at the end of the month very unlikely. I had really enjoyed being able to have a $0 balance for so many months too. I suppose it’s a fair trade given that I want to have teeth when I get older, so less whinging from me.

Tomorrow I will be meeting with a consultant to discuss my wisdom teeth. I had some x-rays taken last week so he will be looking at those, and then giving me the bad news. Given that I also need to get my female dog desexed desperately (since there is a male dog here that hasn’t been desexed, and I can’t remember when my girl was last on heat) next month is also looking a bit tight. I’m also travelling to Melbourne for a few days to visit friends, so the expenses just don’t stop. Pretty clear that the visit to my friends is a want though, and not a need. But I’m still going :-)   I do need some downtime!

Hopefully I can put my wisdom teeth off for a little bit longer to try and draw my money out as long as possible. I’m stilly trying to get myself out of debt, and I know spending loads of money isn’t the way to do it. The fact is that I’m attending to some very overdue things, particularly in regards to my teeth – I should have been having regular checkups, but neglected them. My dog, Missy, should have been done by now but I had never had to worry before since my male dog, Turbo, was desexed already. I’ll just have to hope that nothing goes wrong in the meantime that would require some cash injection fast. Fingers crossed!
