This weekend was meant to be filled with friends, drinks, and laughter. Instead it was low energy all around.

About midday on Thursday (Australia Day, and a public holiday for most), C came down with a terrible virus. He had the shakes, a high fever, and eventually got the runs. He was barely able to stay awake, and lost his entire appetite. Within 24hrs he had dropped 5kg. I immediately kicked into the “caring girlfriend” routine and fussed over him, waking him periodically to take his medication and to make him drink fluids to keep him hydrated. When I wasn’t there, one of our housemates, Joe, stepped in to keep an eye on him.

Needless to say, I cancelled my plans of going away with some friends camping to stay home and look after C instead. I also had to cancel C’s weekend on the Gold Coast for a birthday party, tell some friends not to come over on Friday night, and tell his boss he wouldn’t be in on Saturday morning.

Today was incredibly low key. I woke around 10.30am (after finally going to sleep at 2am, too caught up researching the upcoming Thailand trip) and lazed around the house in my pyjamas. Mum stopped past quickly at midday, then I showered and changed. A few hours were spent as a domestic goddess, washing clothes, weeding and general housework, then I retired to the couch. Where I now sit.

I was also meant to go to Laser Force this afternoon with some friends, but unfortunately the place was closed when they arrived so it got postponed until tomorrow night. I won’t be able to make it as I have netball, so bummer for me. I was also going to go to their house to watch the Australian Open Men’s Singles Final, but my lazy gene kicked in and I piked again.

I have managed to climb out of my indent in the couch to make some banana bread, my first time making it. Hopefully it turns out, I will be sure to post some photos! I also had grand plans of washing and straightening my hair tonight, but at this stage I think that’s out. Maybe tomorrow night after netball…

So I hope you all had a most exciting weekend! I’m happy to report C has improved to the point that he is sitting on the couch, and has stayed awake for most of today, but he is still barely eating anything and doesn’t stray far from the bathroom. Yet he is improving, and that’s fantastic to see.

Next weekend will be more high energy, I’m sure. Now just to start planning something!

Pardon me for the lack of posts, but with a laptop that can tether with my iPhone intermittently at best, I haven’t written in a while. I know I have WordPress on my phone (from which I am posting now) but for posts with length and quality, the extensive typing on my phone can be a bit of a turnoff.

So how did I spend my Sunday?

Doing two loads of washing

Spending no less than 3 hours in the sun (sunscreen on of course, and reapplied regularly) pulling out every weed in sight

Coffee with my mum on the back deck of my new place

Baking a cake – yet to be taste tested so can’t confirm if it was a success yet

Going for a bike ride with C and a friend so that we could experience a view like this:

Right now I’m relaxing on the deck with a glass of wine while inside C makes some pork chops for dinner.

After a few months of stress, days like this just remind me how lucky I am.

I’m living the dream.

Woah, a Saturday to do nothing all day. I am excited by this. Yet I have already got things planned.

It’s pretty much a day of catching up on a lot of chores; washing, vacuuming, mopping etc. Fun times. To really push the excitement factor into the next level, I also decided I’d start sorting out my tax file and get ready to do my tax. Woo!

I’m also aiming to get down to the beach for a few hours with my dog this afternoon along with C and some friends, and also run 10km at some point (there’s a nice track in Kawana that I might do). There’s only 6 weeks until the City 2 Surf, where I’ll be running 14km from Sydney CBD to Bondi…you know, for shits and giggles (as you do). I figure I should really start racking up the kilometres, since at the moment I’m only running just over 4km in the mornings. I need to shock my body now while I have the chance, otherwise I’ll be totally wiped out after the race in Sydney. Actually, given our track record of going out the night before, I’ll probably be wiped out anyway.

Tomorrow I will be driving down to Brisbane to catch up with my aunty and cousin, both of whom I haven’t seen since Christmas. I’m looking forward to it, they’re fantastic. The downside is that I have probably timed it so that I will get stuck in traffic heading back to Brisbane, all the weekend revellers who enjoyed a weekend away up at the Sunshine Coast. Dammit. I’ll just have to make sure I have some good music in the car so that I can conduct an impromptu concert if I get bored. Oh yeah, I know you’re all wishing you could buy tickets (I have tickets on myself…hardy har, geddit? geddit?)

I won’t quit my day job.

I suppose I should probably start attacking the list that I’ve made for today. I just had a 9 hour sleep, the longest sleep I’ve had in a long long time. It’s the first time I haven’t allowed myself to get woken up by an alarm, instead just waking up naturally. Pure bliss. I should enjoy this last weekend off too, since Monday signals the start of the next uni term. I promise I won’t bitch so much about chemistry this time…I’m feeling motivated and dedicated to establishing a study routine.

Ok…I’m going for real now. Housework ahoy!

It all started on Friday…evil, evil Friday. Years gone by I was never keen on going out on a Friday night; I had worked all day, and I was tired by midnight. This Friday I went out again, and it’s the second Friday in less than a month gone by that I’ve been out on the town. How times have changed!

My housemate and I went down to the local Pig & Whistle for a few drinks for one of my housemate’s work colleagues, who was leaving the workplace to move south. I had met him before and got along really well with him, hence my invitation to such a prestigious event. With my newly developed drinking skills I started on the pints of Toohey’s Extra Dry, and it wasn’t long before I was feeling that familiar feeling of drunkeness.

I ran into an old netball friend, Freddy, who didn’t realise it was me at first with my recent weight loss combined with the fact that I was a bit dressier than usual that night. Oh yeah, my hair was TOTALLY down, and I was rocking it (trying to anyway). A few deflected hit on’s later I agreed to be his pool partner, where out of two games I think I sunk one ball. Maybe two. Thank god he was better at playing while drunk.

As it grew close to midnight my housemate and his work crew decided we would go to one of the nearby nightclubs. I was shocked to find there was a lineup to get inside (on the Sunshine Coast?!) and after waiting approximately a minute, my housemate and I decided we were tired and would head home instead. We bid goodbye to everyone else, got a taxi (I had to wake my housemate up after we arrived home) then immediately crashed in bed. I was exhausted.

The next morning I awoke early (7am) to the worst headache I’ve had in quite a while. I got up and drank some water, had a panadol and returned to bed. Half an hour later I rose, vomited a substantial amount into the toilet, and returned to bed for another doze. It was the first time in possibly years that I have vomited from drinking, evidence of the amount I have changed in recent times. That’s not a good thing; I need to remember to drink more water while on the hard stuff!

Eventually I got up, and despite a bit of queasiness nothing else came up, but it wouldn’t be until after lunch that I actually ate any food. Even then I still felt a bit gross after eating it, although it was a grease fix from Red Rooster which usually helps with the recover-from-drinking process.

The rest of the day was spent shopping with my Mum, and chilling out at home watching movies with my housemates. I did try to have another drink, and managed one glass of wine, but decided I wasn’t in the mood for it and returned back to water.

Today I spent most of the day at the beach for a friend’s 40th, which was fantastic. I got to catch up with some people I haven’t seen in a while, and enjoyed the warm winter sun. We really do have the best climate on the Sunshine Coast. This evening I found I was still relatively tired, but I managed to strip the living room of furniture (with help) ready to clean the carpet in the morning. With the dogs being inside the carpet is FILTHY, and I’m praying that the carpet cleaner will do the trick. The white carpet is currently a dark brown, it’s disgusting. Needless to say Missy has resumed sleeping outside, tonight is her first night and no crying, so that’s good. I’ve set her up with a blanket and tomorrow will get her a proper dog jacket to make sure she doesn’t get cold during the winter.

Tomorrow I will also focus on getting a routine back into my life, which hopefully means I will start achieving things again. My uni assignment was handed in a week late, and I’m not even sure I did all of the questions right. I hope I pass. I have an exam coming up in a fortnight and I’m determined to ace it. I’m giving myself two weeks to re-learn the entire course content, starting with a minimum of 2 hour sessions every day, more on the weekend. It’s head down bum up until it’s pens down at the end of the exam. I’m also going to get back into my running routine in preparation for a 10km fun run next month, and a 14km fun run in August. No excuses for not running, even if it’s cold (the rain is a different story though).
Hopefully this also means regular posts on my blog again, and getting my photos up to date.

Enough living large, spending lots of money and not doing things the proper way. I need to get organised again.

What a crazy 48 hours! If I had the chance to live the weekend over, it would be a resounding “hell no”.

The biggest fault of the weekend was dealing with a cold, which first surfaced earlier in the week. Friday I got knocked my ass by the virus, and spent most of the day sleeping on the couch before scoring a 19/20 on my uni exam online Friday night, which I was pretty stoked with. Saturday morning I woke up looking like death again, and couldn’t get back to sleep after I woke up at 5am. I got up, promptly stopped my dog from eating a toad (still had to wash his mouth out to ensure there was no poison in there), then passed the morning in a zombie-like haze. Just before lunch though I had an epiphany, and decided that I would only continue to feel sick if I acted sick.

Suddenly I burst into action doing all the housework, and was incredibly productive. I felt a lot better (although I had to take frequent breaks to blow my nose), and even went for a walk down to the chemist to replenish my cold & flu supplies. Later that night things turned soured again, and I ended up having a disagreement with Mat. I decided to go and do some night photography, which resulted in my long exposure beach shot for Project 365. The next minute my brain kicked into gear again, and I realised there was no better time to go see a movie by myself than right then (especially item no. 42 of my 52 in 52 challenge states I have to go see a movie by myself 3 times this year). I booked tickets online using the Pocket Cinema app on my iPhone and headed to the cinema to see The Social Network. I actually enjoyed going to the movies by myself this time…it was the down time I needed and the cinema wasn’t crowded.

That night I managed to get a bit more sleep than I did Friday night, so this morning woke up feeling a bit more refreshed. Unfortunately I had reached the coughing phase of my cold, and Mat’s friend had stayed the night in the living room. My options were either to stay in the bedroom and wake Mat up with my coughing, or sit in the living room and wake up Mat’s friend with my coughing. Not good. In the end I went and spent half an hour in the garage with the dogs, before deciding I would lay in bed and read a book. I managed 10mins in the bedroom before I went and vomited up all the vitamins I had just taken, along with a load of cold-related disgusting products. Much more efficient than gradually coughing it all up I guess? I returned to bed, and managed a few more hours of rest.

Today was pretty much sitting around at home doing nothing. Mat and I did go out for lunch together in Mooloolaba, but that wasn’t anything exciting. So all in all, it was a weekend spent trying to deal with my cold, having an argument, and watching a movie. The peaks definitely don’t offset the lows, though I can’t say it was the worst weekend on record either. I’m just glad it’s over, and hopefully this week I will be able to get rid of this cold for good, and spend next weekend doing something fun. I’ve just got to pray the rain goes away now!

Wow, just wow. I think I blinked, and a week has passed. Which means that yet again I’m behind in posting my photos of the day. Crap.

This weekend I had set aside to do my uni assignment (due this coming Friday), but I’ve already been booked in to do stuff right up until this afternoon, and tomorrow afternoon we’re meeting up with a friend for a Sunday sesh at the surf club (i.e. drinks, beach, chilling). Better get cracking on that assignment with every free moment I have then!

It’s a really interesting topic though. I have to discuss Locard’s principle (foundation principle of forensic science – “every contact leaves a trace”) and to what extent it remains a cornerstone of forensics science today. Is it outdated? Is it still relevant etc? I’ll try to spend tonight researching court cases and science journals for some great information, and then spend tomorrow and the rest of this week writing and tweaking the assignment. For the first time we’re submitting the assignment online too (no posting hardcopies here), which means I have right up until the last second to get it done. My time is quickly running out, but I’m confident in getting it done on time.

In other news, I’m still really enjoying EA Active2. I wrote about it earlier this week after I had just picked it up for the PS3. I’ve now finished my first week’s training sessions, and there was one day that I could actually feel my muscles were a bit sore! I’m only in the first phase of the 9 week training program, so it’s only going to get harder and harder from here. I’m looking forward to it. The number of exercises they have is impressive too – they actually have planks (KILLS my abs), and some fun “cardio” exercises like mountain boarding (snowboarding but on a skateboard) and mountain biking etc. It’s kept my interest, and I look forward to each session. Hopefully I’ll start getting some nice legs from it; they’re working hard enough!

So that’s me! Time now to go have a shower, and get started on today’s activities (helping Mat service some friends cars – I have to pick them up/drop them off etc). Hope you all have a great weekend!

Midnight saturday night mat insisted he was going to go and spend Sunday up at the beach, just relaxing. He made me check the tides (since google searching is still beyond him unless it involves the words 4wd or boobs) and come Sunday I thought it would have just been another drunkenly rant of his.

But he was up early, made a packed lunch and was ready to go before 9.30am, which for Mat is impressive. Figuring he was serious I packed up the dog bowl for Turbo (even he was invited) threw in more water and snacks for him and off we went.

The weather was amazing! Clear skies, aqua water and golden sand, it was fantastic. We had caught the barge over to double island point and proceeded to drive along the beach right up to the point. There we stopped for lunch, turbo had a swim (and ran away at one point to play with other dogs) and generally sat on the beach and relaxed.

After a few hours we drove into rainbow beach and caught up with a friend we hadn’t seen in a while as he had moved up there for some work as a pilot.

He showed us a spot we had never seen, it brought us to the top of one of the dunes. We had such a clear view over the hinterland in one direction, and the ocean in the other. It was called the blow hole, as it was a flat spot in the dunes where the wind blew directly through. It was all sand and looked like something you would see out of a coca-cola ad with everyone sandboarding down the dunes. I will have to try that one day. I got some great shots with my camera which I will have to upload to flickr tonight.

Finally it was time for us to head home. We had left it a bit late since it was only a few hours until high tide. We decided to take the road way home which meant going through gympie aka 2 hours of boring road opposed to 1 hour gorgeous beach. We finally arrived home at 7pm, eating a feral take away dinner and eventually falling asleep on the couch.

For a treat, here is a pic of my view of rainbow beach, taken with the iPhone (side note – I had reception the entire length if the beach – I never used to get reception there at all!)
