New car – Suzuki Swift Sport

New Suzuki swiftRecently Mat and I decided we would jump in head first and actually admit we’re a couple by doing something couples do – putting funds together. To reward ourselves we would invest in a new car, something we had been pining after since having so many recent problems with my own Suzuki Vitara and his Patrol. We needed something to run around town, to look nice, and take us the distance when needed as well. It had to be comfortable, it had to be the kind of car that wouldn’t need Mat to modify it in ANY way once we purchased it, and it had to be absolutely awesome.

The Suzuki Sport immediately jumped out at us.

New Suzuki swiftAfter almost a month of organising finances, talking to parents, banks and anyone who cared to listen, the funds were paid and we purchased the vehicle. We picked it up on Tuesday, after which I have almost been living out of it – I love it.

The speed of the little thing is unbelievable. Compared to my sister’s new lazy sportscar purchase, driving the Suzi you feel almost guilty for not flying around corners. It has sports suspension, 16″ rims with low profile tyres, and sports seats for the driver and passenger which I’ve been told are Recaros. Mat and I tested out the car around one corner near our house where any normal car will experience a bit of body roll and the occasional squeal. With the suzi there was not a sound to be heard, and sitting in the seats it didn’t feel like we’d gone around the corner at all. Phwoar!

New Suzuki swiftThe inside is very tidy, but my only gripe would be the inbuilt head unit. That’s just from an aftermarket view though – the stereo is the only thing Mat has left to modify (all sports requirements and go fast bits have been completed in the Suzuki factory). Coming from the Vitara which had a quality sound system I had a yearning for my subwoofer, and ipod connection available in my new Pioneer head unit. It would be such a shame to see all that stuff go to waste. We spoke to the fellas at Maroochy Car Sound who can either make up a plate so we can fit in the head unit (roughly $80), or for a bit more can install the head unit and wire it up to the buttons on the steering wheel so they’re not made redundant when we do the head unit swap (about $300 or little less). Food for thought, but something that will be done at a later date. For the moment, I’ll just listen to the stereo, which for a new car stereo is still pretty darn impressive. There was a stereo upgrade available, but knowing that we would no doubt fool around with it in the future we chose to do it ourselves.

Probably my most favourite things are the little details in the trim on the inside – there are white/silver panels on the inside (similar to what you can see on the dash) which look really nice. The racing seats are awesome (although if you have a wide butt like mine they can feel strange around the ass, but we’ll see if this impacts longer drives – might help to motivate me to lose more weight). I really love the whole package!! The paint, the rims, the pedals, everything. Guess you’ll have to go see one in the flesh to see what I mean.

For more information on the new Suzuki Swift Sport I would recommend you check out the Suzuki Swift Sport official page.
