Day 43 – Kanchanaburi
Spent the morning eating breakfast, changing to a cheaper but similar type room (with shittier tv reception) and lazing about. After lunch, around 1.30 a jumbo tuk tuk came to pick me up. It already had 4 in the truck and we were full with 9 people after visiting a bunch of guesthouses. Had to [...]
Day 42 – Kanchanaburi
It seemed like it was raining all night but it was just the river gushing underneath my room. I awoke to the sound of longtail boats and the gentle rocking of my room. Walked down to see the elephants bathing at 7.30. They were pretty cute and looked well cared for – the mahouts got [...]
Day 41 – Kanchanaburi
6.10am and I was checked out and waiting in the lobby for my ride to Kanchanaburi and the River Kwai. My mini bus picked up a couple of Brits to add to the two Germans already in the bus and then we were taken to the grand palace to get on a bigger bus.
Day 40 – Shopping in Bangkok
I don’t think I’ve set myself to Thailand time even after all these weeks. Even when I want to sleep in I’m still awake at 7 so I had had breakfast and was exploring by 9am. Damn thing is that most Thai shops don’t open until 11. I walked from my hotel along Sukhumvit rd [...]
Day 39 – Saigon to Bangkok
Somehow I never blogged this day. I’ll go back and do it, but I can’t be arsed right now. Summary is spent the day in Ho Chi Minh Flew out of Ho Chi Minh around 6pm. Took a bus from Bangkok to Sukhumvit Road Checked in to On8 hotel which was right across from the [...]
Day 38 – Saigon
Final day with my vietnam tour group and we spend it going to the Cu Chi Tunnels. These are the tunnels the Viet Cong used to combat the Americans so successfully. We went to the tourist version of them which is about 1.5 hours out of Saigon. The bus we took with 11 people on [...]
Day 37 – Mekong River Delta
Met our new guide Cheung in the lobby at 8am for our day trip to the Mekong Delta. We had the same driver and van as the day before so we all assumed our usual positions. We were going to take the new superhighway from Saigon to the Mekong Delta but it was so new [...]
Day 36 – Nha Trang to Saigon
5.15am wake up to catch a mini bus to the Mekong Delta at 6.30am which would take around 12-13 hours. Only problem was, when we got down to the lobby Hui told us that the bus wasn’t going to turn up until 8-9am. Bus driver wasn’t in Nha Trang yet or something. That raised all [...]
Day 35 – Nha Trang
Today’s plan was to take a boat out in to Nha Trang Bay and go snorkeling. I thought I was an idiot for doing it with a chest infection but when am I ever going to get a chance to go snorkeling in Vietnam again so I said Fuck It. After we had breakfast of [...]
Day 34 – Hoi An to Nha Trang
Not much to say about today. Woke up at 6am and watched Fatal Attraction until breakfast. Went to the bakery to pick up a ham baguette, apple pie and chocolate croissant for lunch and dinner on the train.
