End of year means end of year lists, so here is my list of most played songs released in 2005. The second half of my listening year was marred by 15-20mins trips on the scooter which wasn’t as conducive to listening as my 45 minute train trips.

I have to say I’m surprised Konichiwa Bitches was beaten by not one but two artists but obviously the incredible drumming from Bloc Party and my itch wasn’t scratched enough by Junior Senior. God I’m hanging out for their new album – maybe I should just order it from Japan. Obviously I adored the Kelly Osbourne album – poor girl is underrated as it is such a good pop record. I guess Gwen is prettier and gets all the kudos. Clap your hands say yeah was discovered via the blogs who were gushing all over them for good reason. The singer has a voice that will put you off if you don’t like David Byrne type phrasing but I’m well known for liking artists that don’t sing in tune. The Franz Ferdinand song would probably be at the top if I had done more listening in the second half of the year but they’ll just have to live with the fact that they released it too late. The biggest surprise to me was the Doves song being up there, I didn’t realise I listened to it so much. To give you an idea of the range of listens, the Junior Senior song was listened to completion 29 times during the year while Sea Lion had 12 complete listens.

Hopefully I’ll do a 2005 album list but since I didn’t get much album listening in it’s going to be a struggle. At least I did one 6 months ago. New Years Resolution is for me to walk over the bridge more often to get in extra listening time. I’ll stop parking the vespa across the road from work (of course I’ll wait until summer stops melting the pavement).

I have no comment to make on your hit list because I don’t care and don’t even know these songs (they don’t play much music on Radio National) – I do have a comment on your About me though – you forgot to mention that you grew up to be a very nice women because you were one of the lucky people who spent lots of time with me when you were young and impresionable. Just in case you are interested – yes it is very hot up here north of the tropic of capricorn, yes we had a wonderful time on Maggie Island for New Year, and yes it is only 65 more sleeps until the BIG TRIP. Your deck looks fabulous. Hello to Pauline, Kelly and Matthew
